The CIA’s European secret

Nick O'Connor
Save for later

Every day makes more evident the importance of the role which will have to be played by covert operations if our national interests are to be adequately protected.”

Those were the words of US State Department official George Kennan in 1949. He was referring specifically to the urgency of an American covert operation to unify Europe economically and politically.

In other words, to build an early forerunner of the EU.

A United States of Europe, built with US assistance and cash.

There’s evidence to suggest this is true. The CIA may even have been involved. The question I’m asking myself today is: does the EU, eurozone and the modern European superstate exist because the US deep state and intelligence agencies desired it?

It’s a pertinent time to ask that question. If it’s true, how does Donald Trump, supporter of Brexit, trade barriers and national borders and anti-EU fit in?

Yesterday evening Trump and Giuseppe Conte gave a press conference in which their alignment on key European issues became even clearer. You could describe both men loosely as eurosceptics. Though that term means different things when one runs a country in Europe and the other doesn’t.

Conte praised Trump for his “positions and stances which are expressed with clarity”, among other things. There’s obviously a connection between the two. We’ll discuss what that could mean in a second.

But first, post-war Europe.

An economy in ruins. A fractured political establishment. Millions dead or displaced. Against this backdrop the US sought to rebuild Europe – using American federalist ideas, institutions and political structures.

The conduit for this project was the American Committee on United Europe (ACUE), which was organised in 1948 by Allen Welsh Dulles.

That name may be familiar to you. Dulles went on to become the first civilian head of the CIA. They even named an airport after him just outside Washington. I’m not sure how much of an honour that is. Though I’m judging that by the quality of the bars in the airport, which is perhaps unfair (they’re awful).

The connections between the ACUE and the US intelligence community go deeper than that. But the historical what if I’m pondering is – would the modern European superstate exist today were it not for US covert operations and cash back then?

It’s hard to say. From a US federalist point of view the project worked. The US exported American ideas on markets and politics to Western Europe. Then it exported actual American goods and set up American-dominated military-political institutions (NATO).

But what never happened in Europe was the formation of a genuine United States of Europe. That’s actually what’s caused many of the imbalances and tensions between nations on the continent today. You have complete integration in some areas (like trade and monetary policy) but not in others (fiscal policy).

That leads to the situation we discussed yesterday regarding Target2 balances. If you missed my piece, here’s a link back to it. Compare the imbalances between Italy and Germany to those between California and Florida. Or England and Scotland, for that matter.

There are imbalances. But those imbalances can be relieved and netted off against one another within a union or federation that combines fiscal, monetary, political and economic elements. In Europe no such singular institution exists to relieve the pressure.

If that sounds like an argument for a United States of Europe, it’s not. It’s an argument against an elite forcing some of those elements (a shared currency) on the population without thinking through the consequences, and without the popular support on the ground to build the system out in full.

I’ve said it before. But it bears repeating. Building a system in which pressure constantly and inevitably builds with no real release valve is a recipe for disaster. Worse than that: it’s a blueprint for economic Armageddon. I’ll come back to this tomorrow.

After writing yesterday’s piece, Boaz Shoshan and Nick Hubble carried on the discussion of how (and why) currency unions collapse. One thing occurred to me after those discussions – a lesson from history. And that’s the fact that in several instances in the past, currency unions came apart when the strongest nations left, rather than the weakest.

Two examples: Slovenia and Croatia both accumulated large surpluses as part of the Yugoslav dinar system. They were “winning” internally. But those balances were paid with increased credit rather than hard currency, persuading Croatia and Slovenia to leave. The same thing happened within the Russian rouble system in the early 1990s. Countries like Belarus and Moldova accumulated huge balances (as much as 11% of GDP) with Russia. Russia again issued credit to pay these balances.

In both cases the issue of credit led to inflation and the breakup of the system. But it was the strong realising they’d be better off out of the system, rather than the weak walking away, that brought about that end.

Map that on to today’s Europe and what do you get? You get an economically strong nation like Germany accumulating “claims” within the Target2 system in reward for its trade balances. How long can that last before the Germans realise they’re being ripped off?

That’s the question Nick Hubble is pondering. Perhaps the euro ends when Germany walks away? I have to say I can’t see it. But it’s worth thinking on.

more from Major General Smedley-Butler

I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during
that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big
Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a
gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico
safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a
decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I
helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the
benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International
Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the
Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped
make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China
in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested.
Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best
he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on
three continents.
Majo-General Smedley Butler

War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses

Nick O'Connor , Southbank Investment Research :

**The UK financial system loans a scary amount of money out to other financial institutions – in fact, FIVE HUNDRED PERCENT more than the G7 average. As of 2014 (the latest figures available) this figure stood at 34% of our entire GDP.
**The UK financial system has the highest exposure to foreign debt in the G7 – again, because our entire banking system is one big 'super spreader'.
**It is by far the most bloated sector, compared to the size of our economy, of any G7 nation. Banking assets are worth four times the entire UK economy.
**It is second only to Canada when it comes to exposure to consumer debt. Consumer debt is expected to reach 150% of GDP by next year.
**It has the lowest 'useful lending' ratio (lending to real businesses not other financial institutions) in the G7.
**It has the highest 'risky assets' ratio of any G7 nation (the ratio of safer 'core' assets to riskier 'non core' assets).
**It has the highest level of 'securitised assets' in the G7 – complex securities that helped create the last crisis.
**The highest leverage (borrowing) ratio of any G7 banking system

a personal view about "the complexities of BREXIT"

I despair about how stupid so many Brits are, wrangling their hands about how "hard it is to understand Brexit"
Brexit is about REGAINING SOVEREIGNTY.....Its really simple....you foolishly married someone who turned out to be a complete psycho. She is stealing your money, undermining your authority and controlling and exerting a bad influence on your children. She is clearly going to have a complete breakdown, its just a question of when. So you divorce her and move on.....yes it will involve pain and difficult transition strategies but its not a difficult decision to make....unless you are really stupid, which apparently millions of my countrymen are

Now I am not saying we have a great democracy or that it  not seriously flawed and corrupted by big corporate interests, corrupt politicians and a despicably establishment serving media  and  an increasing useless education system......BUT at least we have the hope of changing it whwn enough people wake up.............there is no hope of that if we remain in Europe

The ‘Murder’ Of Julian Assange

"Gore Vidal said America suffers from amnesia.

Americans are largely blind to the war and financial crimes perpetuated in their name. Part of this is the result of indoctrination through propaganda media, but to a large degree Americans are incurious and unbothered by the criminality of their leaders and institutions.
Most don’t care Julian Assange is a dead man walking.
They are unable to see the criminal state for what it is – a global Mafia operation that shakes down entire continents and wages wars of conquest and pillage for profit."

Outstanding analysis of the Alison Chabloz case by

By Gilad Atzmon
The Jewish Chronicle seems dismayed that the singer-songwriter Alison Chabloz has escaped jail time, at least for the time being. But the message conveyed by Ms. Chabloz’s conviction is devastating for Britain. This kingdom has, in just a short time, become a crude authoritarian state.
For posting so-called ‘grossly offensive songs’ on the internet, Chabloz was sentenced by District Judge John Zani to 20 weeks imprisonment suspended for two years. It seems that now music is deemed a major threat to Britain.
Chabloz was also banned from posting anything on social media for 12 months. I am perplexed. What kind of countries pre-vet social interaction and intellectual exchange? Israel imposes such prohibitions on its Palestinian citizens. Soviet Russia banned certain types of gatherings and publications and, of course, Nazi Germany saw itself qualified to decide what type of texts were healthy for the people and actively burned books.  I guess that Britain is in good company.
Chabloz was further “ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.” This amounts to something in the proximity of 90 Jazz gigs. And Chabloz is required to attend ‘a 20-day rehabilitation programme.’ In 21st century Britain,  a singer songwriter has been sentenced to ‘re-education’ for singing a few tunes that offended some people. The initial objective of the Nazi Concentration camp was also to ‘re-educate the people.’  Dachau was built to re-educate cosmopolitans, dissenter communists and to make them into German patriots. I wonder what this particular rehab program will entail for the revisionist singer? Chabloz was guilty of introducing new lyrics to Ava Nagila, will she have now to learn to sing Ava Nagila in Yiddish, or maybe to try to fit her own  original ‘subversive’ lyrics to the music of Richard Wagner? Who is going to take care of Chabloz’s education, and what happens if the singer insists on continuing to mock the primacy of Jewish suffering or far worse, compare Gaza to Auschwitz?
Satire aside, the Chabloz trial and other recent legal cases suggest to me that Britain is no longer the liberty-loving place I settled in more than two decades ago. If liberty can be defined as the right to offend, Britain has voluntarily removed itself from the free world. In contemporary Britain, exercise of the ‘right to offend’ evidently leads to conviction and possible imprisonment. And who defines what establishes ‘an offence’? British law fails to do so. Chabloz was disrespectful to some Jewish cult figures such as Elie Wiesel and Otto Frank (the father of Anne Frank). Would Chabloz be subject to similar legal proceeding if she offended the Queen, the royal family or Winston Churchill? What message is Judge Zani sending to British intellectuals and artists? Since every person, let alone Jews, can be offended by pretty much anything, Britain is now reduced to an Orwellian dystopia. We may have to accept that our big Zionist brother is constantly watching us. If we want to keep out of trouble, we better self-censor our thoughts and learn to accept the new boundaries of our expression.
Democracies are sustained by the belief that their members are qualified to make decisions regarding their own education: they decide what films to watch, what books to read and what clubs to join. Seemingly, this is no longer the case in Britain. Decisions regarding right and wrong thoughts are now taken by ‘the law’. According to the JC, Judge Zani told Chabloz that :“The right to freedom of speech is fundamental to a fully-functioning democratic society. But the law has clearly established that this right is a qualified right.”
While many of us believe that freedom of speech is an absolute right, Judge Zani made it clear today that this is not the case or at least not anymore. Freedom of speech in Britain is now a ‘qualified right.’ In other words Government and the Judicial system are allowed to interfere with such right at any time. Just two years ago, the Crown Prosecution Service didn’t think that Chabloz should stand trial. Presumably at the time the CPS didn’t believe that Chabloz’ rights should be qualified or quantified. Two years later there has been a clear change in speech that is prosecuted.
Article 19e of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, signed by Great Britain and enacted in 1948 declares: “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”
This was the law in 1948.  In 2018, freedom and democracy are rights we have to remember, we experience them no more.

CIA Has Interfered With Over 81 Foreign Elections in the Past Century

Speaking before an audience during an event held by the Council on Foreign Relations, Richard Stengel, a former high-level U.S. government official, head of the office for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs at the State Department from 2013 to 2016, and regular commentator on the fake news network MSNBC, argued that governments have a responsibility to direct propaganda at their domestic populations and ultimately control the political narrative.
“Basically, every country creates their own narrative story and, you know, my old job at the State Department was what people used to joke as the ‘chief propagandist’ job,” Stengel explained during the CFR event. “We haven’t talked about propaganda… I’m not against propaganda. Every country does it, and they have to do it to their own population, and I don’t necessarily think it’s that awful.”
All major network news programs and social media like Facebook are controlled by the CIA. These, and scores of government-orchestrated think tanks, work 24/7 devising ways to interfer and control elections and policy in every country. The US even goes beyond interferring with elections – it creates wars in countries to overthrow democratically elected governments. Every war in recent history has been created by fake news and propaganda – mostly by the US Government, the British government, or the Israeli government.
And as always, the victims are blamed for the discord and chaos created by US agencies working in foreign lands.

Bilderberg: Nerdy Supper Club, or Non-Elected, Unaccountable Rulers?

Friday, 25 May 2018

an interesting post for the Trump-haters from Marshall Kamena, Mayor of Livermore, CA.. Thanks to Lundy from Daneric's board for this

I am rather averse to seeing things through the contracted and distorted lens of the Left/Right paradigm because I think it is a distraction, but very interesting nonetheless

"while we were playing by the rules of dignity, collegiality and propriety, the Left has been, for the past 60 years, engaged in a knife fight where the only rules are those of Saul Alinsky and the Chicago mob.
I don’t find anything “dignified,” “collegial” or “proper” about Barack Obama’s lying about what went down on the streets of Ferguson in order to ramp up racial hatreds because racial hatreds serve the Democratic Party.
I don’t see anything “dignified” in lying about the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi and imprisoning an innocent filmmaker to cover your tracks.
I don’t see anything “statesman-like” in weaponizing the IRS to be used to destroy your political opponents and any dissent.
Yes, Obama was “articulate” and “polished” but in no way was he in the least bit “dignified,” “collegial” or “proper.”
The Left has been engaged in a war against America since the rise of the Children of the ‘60s. To them, it has been an all-out war where nothing is held sacred and nothing is seen as beyond the pale.. It has been a war they’ve fought with violence, the threat of violence, demagoguery and lies from day one – the violent take-over of the universities – till today.
The problem is that, through these years, the Left has been the only side fighting this war. While the Left has been taking a knife to anyone who stands in their way, the Right has continued to act with dignity, collegiality and propriety.
With Donald Trump, this all has come to an end. Donald Trump is America ’s first wartime president in the Culture War.
During wartime, things like “dignity” and “collegiality” simply aren’t the most essential qualities one looks for in their warriors. Ulysses Grant was a drunk whose behavior in peacetime might well have seen him drummed out of the Army for conduct unbecoming.
Had Abraham Lincoln applied the peacetime rules of propriety and booted Grant, the Democrats might well still be holding their slaves today.
Lincoln rightly recognized that, “I cannot spare this man. He fights.”
General George Patton was a vulgar-talking.. In peacetime, this might have seen him stripped of rank. But, had Franklin Roosevelt applied the normal rules of decorum then, Hitler and the Socialists would barely be five decades into their thousand-year Reich.
Trump is fighting. And what’s particularly delicious is that, like Patton standing over the battlefield as his tanks obliterated Rommel’s, he’s shouting, “You magnificent bastards, I read your book!”
That is just the icing on the cake, but it’s wonderful to see that not only is Trump fighting, he’s defeating the Left using their own tactics. That book is Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals – a book so essential to the Liberals’ war against America that it is and was the playbook for the entire Obama administration and the subject of Hillary Clinton’s senior thesis.
It is a book of such pure evil, that, just as the rest of us would dedicate our book to those we most love or those to whom we are most indebted, Alinsky dedicated his book to Lucifer.
Trump’s tweets may seem rash and unconsidered but, in reality, he is doing exactly what Alinsky suggested his followers do. First, instead of going after “the fake media” — and they are so fake that they have literally gotten every single significant story of the past 60 years not just wrong, but diametrically opposed to the truth, from the Tet Offensive to Benghazi, to what really happened on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri — Trump isolated CNN.. He made it personal.
Then, just as Alinsky suggests, he employs ridicule which Alinsky described as “the most powerful weapon of all.”... Most importantly, Trump’s tweets have put CNN in an untenable and unwinnable position. ... They need to respond.
This leaves them with only two choices. They can either “go high” (as Hillary would disingenuously declare of herself and the fake news would disingenuously report as the truth) and begin to honestly and accurately report the news or they can double-down on their usual tactics and hope to defeat Trump with twice their usual hysteria and demagoguery. The problem for CNN (et al.) with the former is that, if they were to start honestly reporting the news, that would be the end of the Democratic Party they serve. It is nothing but the incessant use of fake news (read: propaganda) that keeps the Left alive.
Imagine, for example, if CNN had honestly and accurately reported then-candidate Barack Obama’s close ties to foreign terrorists (Rashid Khalidi), domestic terrorists (William Ayers & Bernardine Dohrn), the mafia (Tony Rezko) or the true evils of his spiritual mentor, Jeremiah Wright’s church.
Imagine if they had honestly and accurately conveyed the evils of the Obama administration’s weaponizing of the IRS to be used against their political opponents or his running of guns to the Mexican cartels or the truth about the murder of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and the Obama administration’s cover-up.
So, to my friends on the Left — and the #NeverTrumpers as well — do I wish we lived in a time when our president could be “collegial” and “dignified” and “proper”? Of course I do.
These aren’t those times. This is war. And it’s a war that the Left has been fighting without opposition for the past 50 years.
So, say anything you want about this president - I get it - he can be vulgar, he can be crude, he can be undignified at times. I don’t care. I can’t spare this man. He fights for America! "

Donald Trump, in obedience to his Zionist handlers, has moved the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to West Jerusalem – a stupid and dangerous move. He chose to be absent from the Jerusalem celebration held in his honor May 14th. While a select crowd of well-dressed American and Israeli officials regaled the new location of the embassy in West Jerusalem, sixty miles to the east the scene was one of death, destruction, and mourning.
It was merely one of a continuum of Zionist atrocities waged against native Palestinians. It has been the same for decades. The history reads like a made-for-TV series of invasion by unstoppable aliens. Thanks to the full backing by the US Military, the Israelis have run roughshod over the native Palestinians with constant massacres and encroachment upon Palestinian land. Today, Palestinians are forcibly pushed into Gaza which is now their prison. They are forced to live there without adequate food, water, sanitation, or medical facilities. Furthermore, the Israelis kill and maim the Palestinians (men, women, children) at will. They also drive them out of their homes, and claim they are doing this to defend themselves.
The Zionists get by with doing this because the US Government defends them in anything they do. Also, the churches in America brainwash everyone to believe that the Zionist Jews are the descendants of ancient Israelites, and that they have the approval of God to commit the atrocities against the Palestinians. But the truth is that the Zionist Jews are not Israelites at all. They are not Semitic. They are not related to Abraham. They are fakes who have adopted the name “Jew” and then pulled off the biggest hoax of modern times. They were empowered to do this only because they had the backing of the churches (which are not true Christian), the British and US governments, and the money power of international banks

What killed democracy was constant lying to the public, by politicians whose only way to win national public office has been to represent the interests of the super-rich at the same time as publicly promising to represent the interests of the public — “and may the better liar win!” — it’s a lying-contest. When democracy degenerates into that, the ‘democracy’ becomes dictatorship by the richest, the people who can fund the most lying. Such a government is called an aristocracy, no democracy at all, because the aristocracy rule there, the public don’t. It’s the type of government that the French Revolution was against and overthrew; and it’s the type of government that the American Revolution was against and overthrew; but it has been restored, in both countries

In 2002 and early 2003, the drumbeat for aggression against Iraq was like Hitler’s drumbeat in 1939 for a ‘defensive’ invasion against Poland. It was a succession of one lie after another. But, yet, to this day, many Americans, and even some non-Americans, still trust the U.S. Government not to lie its way into aggression, even into aggression which destroys a nation that the U.S. regime claims to be trying to ‘save’, so that the U.S. regime’s true intentions are clearly very different from the benign ones that are being asserted. Believing any longer in such a Government, and in its press, is therefore to be a willing mental slave, of a regime that actually endangers the entire world (and which Government non-Americans consider to be the world’s most dangerous).

Dax - right shoulder forming ?

Thanks to Bobo for this

Despite a strong earnings season, former Republican congressman Ron Paul is renewing his call for a market meltdown.
He sees additional near-term corrections gripping stocks as the budget deficit exposes more vulnerabilities to the United States' capacity to do business.
"The fundamentals show that the spenders are in Washington. They're alive and well. The deficit is skyrocketing like never before," Paul said Tuesday on CNBC's "Futures Now." "The market is destined to go down."
The libertarian's comments came as the Dow kicked off May in the red and briefly fell back into correction territory. The index fell by more than 300 points on Tuesday before closing down by 64 points. The S&P 500 eked out a fractional gain.
Even with stocks under pressure, Paul contends the stock market is too expensive.
"The fundamental reason is that we've had too much printing of money — especially since 1971, especially with the QE. So, everything is artificial. There are big bubbles, so stocks are basically higher," he said.
The former presidential candidate isn't known for being subtle when it comes to his pullback calls.
"Ultimately, when these corrections have to occur, they always go down a lot more than people expect. Just like they go up higher than people expect," Paul said. "A 50 percent correction with all the distortion that has existed for all these years — I think it's very possible."
Paul falls short on offering a timeline, but last August he estimated a correction could be less than a year away. On Feb. 2, his warning became a reality. However, the magnitude was less than 50 percent.
Still, he believes a wave of massive selling is still ahead.
"In spite of what looks pretty secure in the economy in the statistics, I think it's in shambles. It's a real mess,"' he said.
There is one investment in particular that Paul deems as safe: gold.
He already owns it. But with gold trading around its lowest level of the year and risks looming, Paul is considering buying more.
"I personally would be better off if I did buy a little bit more gold," Paul said

There has been no recent reporting on the Skripal case in which a British-Russian double agent and his daughter were poisoned in Salisbury, England. There even seem to be attempts to change the public record of the case.

The British government alleged that the Skripals were poisoned by Novichok, a deadly nerve agent, and blamed Russia for it. There are still many open questions to ask but the British media, otherwise not afraid of 'door stepping', are curiously uninterested. We already noted in early April that the British press was throwing Novi-Fog™ onto the public. It was repeating outrageous and illogical claims from "security services" but did no genuine reporting on the Skripal case.

Now the former British ambassador Craig Murray quotes Clive Ponting, another former senior civil servant, who suspects that the British government issued a D-Notice. Such a notice forbids British media to report on an issue. Murray also points to a tweet by Channel 4 correspondent Alex Thomson from March 12 in which Thomsen mentions a D-Notice specifically related to Mr. Skripal's MI6 handler

One Pablo Miller, a British MI6 agent, had recruited Sergej Skripal. The former MI6 agent in Moscow, Christopher Steele, was also involved in the case. Skripal was caught by the Russian security services and went to jail. Pablo Miller, the MI6 recruiter, was also the handler of Sergej Skripal after he was released by Russia in a spy swap. He reportedly also lives in Salisbury. Both Christopher Steele and Pablo Miller work for Orbis Business Intelligence which created the "Dirty Dossier" about Donald Trump.

We early on suspected a relation between the "Dirty Dossier" and the Skripal affair:

Here are some question:
Did Skripal help Steele to make up the "dossier" about Trump?

Were Skripal's old connections used to contact other people in Russia to ask about Trump dirt?

Did Skripal threaten to talk about this?

If there is a connection between the dossier and Skripal, which seems very likely to me, then there are a number of people and organizations with potential motives to kill him. Lots of shady folks and officials on both sides of the Atlantic were involved in creating and running the anti-Trump/anti-Russia campaign. There are several investigations and some very dirty laundry might one day come to light.

Former CIA Officer and whistleblower Kevin Shipp says, “There is essentially a civil war involving parts of senior management and upper parts of our government that is occurring in the United States. It’s between the ‘Dark’ side and the ‘Constitutional’ side. There has never been anything like this in history. . . . People need to understand that the Democrat Party today is not the Democrat Party of John F. Kennedy. The Democrat Party with Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton is more Marxist than anything else. They think the Constitution should be a ‘progressive’ document. In other words, the Constitution is outdated and should be redone. They are both directly connected into George Soros, who wants to destroy the sovereignty of the U.S. government. . . . The Democrat Party is now made up of Marxists and leftists that have penetrated that entire organization. . . . Their entire goal is to change our form of government and destroy our sovereignty.”
